Richard W. “Dick” Hadden, age 87, of Janesville, WI died peacefully at home, surrounded by family on May 20, 2013. Richard was born in Poynette, Columbia County, WI, on July 2, 1925, the son and only child of Mark and Sadie (Thiessen) Hadden. Dick attended Poynette School (kindergarten through High School), graduating in 1943. After a brief employment at the Wisconsin State Experimental Game and Fur Farm near Poynette, he entered the University of Wisconsin-Madison graduating in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in both Microbiology and Chemistry. Dick and Jean Rose were married May 17, 1947 in the Poynette Methodist Church and recently celebrated their 66th anniversary. Dick was employed for 35 years at Abbott Laboratories Pharmaceutical Company in North Chicago – Waukegan, IL, retiring in 1985. In 1992, he and Jean returned to Wisconsin settling in Janesville. Dick was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Janesville, a former member of Christ Episcopal Church, Waukegan, IL, Janesville Blackhawk Golden “K” Kiwanis Club for whom he wrote the newsletter and received national awards for its presentation,  AF&AM Masonic Lodge of Grayslake, IL and F&AM Masonic Lodge of Janesville, WI. He was also a former member of the Elks and Moose Lodges.
Dick had interest in many activities. Over the years he enjoyed reading, stamp collecting, beekeeping, photography, amateur radio, auto repairing, locksmithing, computer, etc. He and Jean were global travelers. Over time they visited many, many countries around the world. Richard had also authored a book on the history of the church, entitled The Way, which he had written without the intention of having his work published.
Surviving are his wife, Jean, his two daughters, Suzanne (Gene) Oakley and Diane (Claude) Lewis, four grandchildren, Tatianna Oakley who graduated from the UW-M on 12/16/2012 with a BFA in Photography Cum Laude, Richard-who graduated from the UW on 5/19/2013 with a BS in both Microbiology and Biology, Perry and Ryan Lewis who are both currently pursuing college degrees; all of Janesville.
Dick was a devoted family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren.
A funeral Eucharist will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2013 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 409 E. Court St., Janesville with visitation for the hour just prior to the services. A memorial fund will be established in Mr. Hadden’s name.  Henke-Clarson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
